The Value and Importance of the Right Toys for Our Developing Children

Choosing the right toys for our developing children has become an important issue in recent times, and proven time and again by science, and the test of time.

Children need to have the right toys for their age group, and developmental level.

This is highlighted in several ways.

Safety

Firstly, there is the safety issue, in terms of the toy’s suitability to your child’s age group. An example is that a toy with many small attachments, like buttons, may not be suitable for a very young child, as they might swallow, and choke on the small parts of the toy. Essentially, many toys made by reputable companies will be labelled to a specific age group. As this may not always be the case, your judgement is always beneficial, as you are the most caring person about your child’s safety.

Children’s Development

Furthermore, children move through developmental stages, where they learn different motor skills.

They are not even able to fully support themselves in a sitting position very early on for the first few months.

Naturally, as an example, they will not be suited to certain toys at this time, as they may not be able to play properly with them.

There are numerous toys, and designs available, to help your child to develop their skills, motor, and otherwise, like the recognition of shapes, and the ability to handle different tasks, like pushing buttons on a toy telephone.

Different Toys, Skills and Fun

All these skills develop over a period of time, and many toys are both a great deal of fun for your child, as well as educational for their development.

Many reputable toy retailers are able to assist with advice, as well as some very good online stores.

The benefit of online stores is that you are able to browse, in the comfort of your own home or office, and have the toys delivered to your door, rather than the potentially frustrating task of taking children to large shopping complexes.

From my experience, I have found that more often than not, the variety of toys is simply huge, and it can be difficult to choose.

However, if you are concerned about the safety of toys ( from the point of view of the paints that are used, as an example, and their safety for your child), there are alternatives.

You Might be Able to Make Your Child’s Toys

If you are the handy type of person, wooden toys can be made, relatively inexpensively.

I realise this task can take time, and you may be fortunate to have an older family member, who may be retired, who can assist or do this for you.

I realise this does not apply to everyone, but there are some excellent wooden toys, or blocks out there.

They are very safe, as you will know there are no toxic paints, or other chemicals in the toys.

Another example could be that you can knit dolls, or similar toys.

I know only too well that these activities take time, but I also know as a parent that we often have different priorities and we find that we may turn toy making into a hobby.

For some of you, who wish to spend more time at home with your children, this can also be turned into a home business, where you make handmade toys.

I know this may seem out there at first for some of you, but believe me, some parents are doing this, and not only enjoying it, but are making a great income, and spending more time with their children.

If you are not the so-handy type, this is still ok.

Over all, your child craves your love, affection, and attention. These are the most important ingredients for your child’s safety and well being.
